Employment in Australia
It is important to remember that approval to migrate to Australia does not insure a job. Australia's job market depends on many economic factors so it is important to know that no matter how well skilled and qualified you are there may not be vacancies.
The statistics for unemployment are quite low. In the period from
January 2001 to June 2001 the unemployment rate was 4.2%, for migrants the unemployment rate was 6.4%, for those born in English speaking countries it was 3.9% whilst for those born in other countries the rate was 7.9%.
Before arrival in Australia you should check that you meet skill requirments for working in Australia, and that you will be able to be registered and licenced in you specific field.
It is a good idea to sign up with Centrelink although you may not be eligible for payments, they can help you look for work. It is also an idea to look for vacancies in you local newspapers and online.
